Working At Building Blocks

Building Blocks Child Care and Development Centers seek to hire and retain the highest quality staff available in our community.  Each position has a different level of qualifications, from High School graduate to four-year-degreed staff, and all staff at Building Blocks typically exceed the minimum standards set forth by the NC Division of Child Development.

Our full-time Lead Teachers are required to have or be actively pursuing their AAS degree in Early Childhood Education. Building Blocks also prefers at least two years of teaching experience for all Lead Teachers.

Full-time Assistant Teachers must have their North Carolina Early Childcare Credential (NCECCC) or enroll to receive it within their first six months of employment.

Teacher’s aides, floaters and school age program assistants must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

All staff must participate in the required number of in-service training hours each year based on their education and level of experience.  Building Blocks provides most trainings on-site at little or no cost to our employees and many staff exceed the minimum required number of in-service hours each year.

Each member of the Administrative staff (Center Directors and Assistant Directors) has their North Carolina Early Childhood Administrative Credential.  At Building Blocks, since all three locations have earned a FIVE STAR rating, the Center Directors have attained Level 3 status.  All Assistant Directors are Level 1 or Level 2 administrators.

Our Program Coordinator positions require a higher level of education and experience than our classroom Lead Teachers.  Program Coordinators must have or be actively pursuing a four-year degree and have at least two years supervisory experience.

We also employ full-time cooks and a nutrition specialist who must have extensive knowledge of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food program.

Building Blocks is quite proud of our very high staff retention rate and low rate of turnover.  Our competitive salary and benefits package provides excellent incentive to our wonderful staff.  Our benefits include a reduced child care, health insurance, 401K, paid holidays and time off, paid education release time and tuition assistance.
