Our School Age Program provides children with an opportunity to participate in many different types of large and small group activities that promote friendship building. These activities are planned and executed to enhance each child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth and development.
This program follows a theme-based curriculum combined with various teacher-directed and child-directed activities. Recognizing that children have been in the very structured environment of school for most of the day, our focus on arrival to our program is for relaxation, with a snack and some time to decompress. We also offer homework assistance, outdoor play and other creative activities in the interest centers in each classroom.
Among the activities available to this age group on a daily basis are board games, computers, art and craft projects, science and nature, drama, music and movement. School age children have the opportunity to choose their own groupings for many activities since social friendships are very important at this stage of development.
Many choices are offered in our School Age program to further enhance each child's individuality as well as their growing curiosity and decision-making skills. Setting limits and providing structure are also important at this stage of development and our staff is able to provide just the right balance of structured and free choice activities daily.
