History

Lois Stephenson, president of Building Blocks Child Care and Development Center, established the first Building Blocks center in Clayton, NC, in August of 1993.  It was in this center that Lois began providing child care and education for children between the ages of birth through 12 years.

Lois discovered her fascination with children and their development at an early age.  Lois says, "In the business of child care, every skill that I have acquired throughout the years and every obstacle that I have overcome has prepared me for the career that I have today. I have learned from those experiences and I am proud to say I am living my dream of making a difference in the lives of children while I watch them develop and grow."

As Building Blocks has grown and expanded, Lois says, "When I started my business, I had no idea that it would provide me with the wonderful opportunity to include my family in work everyday.  My interest in child development and care began with my own children and that interest has grown along with them.  My children have given me years of inspiring experiences from birth and death to school days and college.  Today, my daughters and my husband are here to continue to build on our experiences together as we keep this business going for years to come."
