Lois Stephenson, president of Building Blocks Child Care and Development Center, established the first Building Blocks center in Clayton, NC, in August of 1993. It was in this center that Lois began providing child care and education for children between the ages of birth through 12 years.
Lois discovered her fascination with children and their development at an early age. Lois says, "In the business of child care, every skill that I have acquired throughout the years and every obstacle that I have overcome has prepared me for the career that I have today. I have learned from those experiences and I am proud to say I am living my dream of making a difference in the lives of children while I watch them develop and grow."
As Building Blocks has grown and expanded, Lois says, "When I started my business, I had no idea that it would provide me with the wonderful opportunity to include my family in work everyday. My interest in child development and care began with my own children and that interest has grown along with them. My children have given me years of inspiring experiences from birth and death to school days and college. Today, my daughters and my husband are here to continue to build on our experiences together as we keep this business going for years to come."
In Memory of Michelle Jones
Michelle worked with Building Blocks since we opened our first facility in 1993. During her Developmental Psychology classes in college, she began to learn how a child’s brain develops and how important the early years of learning are. She knew then that she wanted to continue working with children.
After graduating from Barton College, she began working as Director and continued course work through a local community college in order to become a Level 3 Administrator.
Through the years, she enjoyed working as an Assistant Teacher, Teacher, School Age Program Coordinator and Director. She was very proud to be working along with her mother, Lois Stephenson, Founder and Owner of Building Blocks. The family environment of Building Blocks was further enhanced by the unique opportunity she had to work with her sister, aunt, sisters-in-law, husband and several nieces. Michelle found it as a wonderful benefit to have her son attending one of our facilities while she was here.
Building Blocks provides the highest quality of care to children in all three of our Five Star centers and we consider it a privilege to have had Michelle as a part of this wonderful program.
